Facebook bans news in Australia as fight with government escalates
What's more fun is that they also took down the pages of health officials, charities, schools and even their own corporate PR page, turning the whole thing from an act of corporate petulance to a rather spectacular self-own.
Does facebook pay journalists, or is it just an aggregator? I read this as:
"Company X with core competency Y stops executing non competency Z in market A"
I guess what Facebook's core competency is may be somewhat fluid. I hope for the average Australian's sake this is an improvement. I say this with the assumption that news consumption is likely healthier when sourced from organizations practising journalism, and that missing news from an aggregator would (optimistically) increase views from proper journalists' publications.
For a few years of my life I thought I'd never live to see the downfall of FB, these days I get to read this type of article every other day... Granted, I will take much much more to end FB's rule over modern communications but hope is starting to creep in with this regard. Thank God, literally.
