If Anything Happens I Love You
The promotional poster in the wiki article is heart breaking.
My son was attending Arapahoe High School when Claire Davis was murdered by another student. My son and his classmates hid in their classrooms, and were later marched outside by law enforcement, single file with hands on heads.
I learned about it at work, when my son texted me to look at the news.
While I was speeding down University Blvd, a two car convoy sped past me; Governor (now Senator) Hickenlooper.
While I was waiting for my son to be released, other jurisdictions' law enforcement were everywhere, even federal Parks Department, so that Arapahoe Sheriffs could focus on the school.
Governor Hickenlooper gave an update to the press and parents on the corner across from the school. It was very plain and direct, everything parents and community needed, no fluff.
They took our kids to a nearby church, and an officer from some other jurisdiction released them to parents one by one.
It took Claire Davis a day or two to die, but it was hopeless, being shot in the head with a shotgun.
The shooter killed himself in the school library, trapped by law enforcement, who advanced on him immediately.
That lesson was learned from Columbine High School, where law enforcement stayed outside while the shooters roamed the halls, killing at leisure, before ultimately killing themselves.
On the day of Columbine I was sitting in my office in Centennial. Out the window I saw news helicopters zooming past, lower and faster than I'd ever seen.
A minute later my boss raced out of the building. Her son, at Columbine, had called her. He was unharmed.
