Ask HN: Why does everyone hate Jason Calacanis?
Lets end the discussion once and for all, Is he worth hating or is he a net positive for startups and entrepreneurs?
UPDATE: I am actually not starting a flame war, im just kind of confused since he promotes startups, he has successfully brought down a PAy to Play outfit that preyed on entrepreneurs, informing people about the culture of startup, help bring up lesson learned from his show. etc. Why is everyone here piling up on him.
How he violates Google is Google's problem, not mine. How he SEOs is and will be his problem not mine. Im just trying to determine if this is a bandwagon thing going on or did he do something more nefarious that i am not aware of.
That was the most efficient start to a flamewar ever.
his site is the cancer of the web, whose sole goal is to trick Google users into clicking the ads.
if any other website owner did the shit he did, we'd get our asses banned from Google, yet he gets a free pass
I don't know about everyone else, but based on the shady content stealing and black hat SEO tactics used by Mahalo, I think Calacanis is a major league douche.
The proposition that we should end a matter of opinion 'once and for all' makes absolutely no sense.
Submitter, you do realize human nature doesn't work this way, yes?

Seriously? This is OK for Hacker News? Flagged.
That depends on whether you take the 37 Signals view of VC and the startup industry. Jason encourages the popular model for startups, which uses VC money to grow and tries to get acquired. If you think that model is flawed and ultimately destroys value, then you would think Jason does a disservice.
Nice try, Calacanis.

One can be both a net positive to a particular field and, simultaneously, a contemptible wanker worthy of hatred. I have yet to be convinced that he is a net positive to anything other than a portfolio of contemptible wankers.
He's a bit of an attention whore. He's sometime more interested in saying something than what the content of that message is.
As far as I'm concerned he seems like decent-enough guy and I'd cut off a finger to work with him.
Edit: If you'd cut off a finger to work for anyone, I'm a bit concerned for you.
If you're not in the game for at least a finger, get off the court, because you're in my way.
