Ask HN: Advice for working with Indian Boss

Please understand that my question comes from a sincere place. I am not trying to incite some racist thing here.

I am on my fourth week working as a contractor for a new firm. Nearly everyone who works here is Indian. I am the only American on my team. My supervisor talks to me as if I am stupid and I am his servant. I am not sure if it's because I'm white or because I'm a contractor, but he doesn't talk to the other (Indian) developers that way. There is one senior dev on the team who likes to speak in Hindi when we're having a meeting. He often laughs and I suspect he is laughing at me.

I really like the project I'm on and I feel I can learn a lot if I stick around for a while. However, I feel really uncomfortable. I'm not sure if this a cultural thing or if it's just a case of a boss who is a difficult person.

Has anyone had a similar experience? If so, do you have any advice on how to make this work?

Thank you in advance
