Ask HN: Global Hardware Component Shortage

It appears that there is a global shortage in electronic components. We have issues sourcing sensors, RF modules etc., with supplier lead times in the range of months to years. I've heard of similar issues from other companies. Why is there a global shortage in electronic components? Is it related to China shutting down some of its economy during COVID?
