Heinz starts petition to make hot dogs and buns come in equal packs
Maybe the only useful thing about the status quo is providing a familiar motivating example for many kids for the concept of least common multiple.

Kraft owns Heinz and also Oscar Mayer, which sells hot dogs in packs of 8.
But also in 10 and 6, as do other brands.
This is a hilarious thing to find on HN. But then again, how many years have we been hacking, the wiener to bun ratio problem!
Both hot dogs and buns can keep for a long time at -20 C; perhaps if you collect 1000 ketchup bottle caps, Heinz would redeem them for a small chest freezer?

Vienna Beef hot dogs and Mary Ann buns both come in packs of 8. They must be dealing with inferior brands.
i noticed that whole foods sells in multiples of 6 which kind of locks me into their hot dog brand, given than their brioche buns are pretty awesome. everyone else seems to sell in 8's.
