Ask HN: What do you use to convert uploaded audio

I need to be able to convert audio uploaded from the user to a format which my service can read and I was curious as to the tools which people are using to do this.

I'm working with a .NET stack however, it does not have to be exclusive to .NET. OSS is preferred but I'm looking for a list to be able to determine the best tool to use.
