Tell HN: Never launch your MVP while your domain is being transferred

I’m so frustrated. All excited about launching my MVP after a 2-week sprint, I was getting prepared to deploy it.

Few days earlier I decided to transfer my domains from Domain.com to GoDaddy. They say it takes 5-7 for the domains to transfer. Fast forward to yesterday, I finally deployed everything to Beanstalk and set up my Route53 records.

All I needed to do next was changing my domain’s NS records to point to AWS’s.As it turns out, it cannot be done while a domain is being transferred as per ICANN policy.

I asked Domain.com to try and expedite it, and they said that they’ve sent a Transfer Away Approval email - only it has never arrived. They’ve re-sent it couple more times - still nothing. Domain.com offer paid webmail services, but cannot make their own internal email system to work. Ridiculous.

Now my MVP launch is stuck for the next few days. So freaking frustrating.

BTW: It definitely proved out to be a good choice to transfer from Domain.com. Buy cheap, buy twice I guess.

Update: Just got that email. 15 hours later.
