AI isn't the first tool to replace part of human cognition. Calculators, going back to abacuses, and any printed reference predated them. Did they reduce the importance of humans? It depends on the defnition of importance: They reduced the 'first-order' demand for human capability, but created more higher-order demand - partly by freeing up resources that could be used elsewhere.
