    I'm surprised that Prof. Reich didn't directly address the answer provided in the article's link:

    > Semiconductors are a strategic resource, and the United States must ensure that it can produce the chips that are so critical to our economic prosperity and national defense here at home.

    That purpose and rationale seems pretty clear to me: chips are critical to defense, which cannot necessarily rely on foreign manufacturing and supply. So questions that need to be addressed are 1) whether that purpose and rationale are sensible and 2) whether the bill supports that purpose and does what it claims to do.

  • Because injecting billions into a corporation so they can compete with overseas companies after the fact, is more feel-goody than removing the policies that made corporations move overseas to begin with.
