Immortal Game – The next generation of chess platform powered by blockchain

  • So this is the killer application for the blockchain? Not a store of value, but a store of chess games?

In all seriousness, I'm not sure chess needed an "entertaining crypto layer" or "NFTs tied to pieces"... Best of luck

  • I read through this a few times. As far as I can tell you get some special pieces that get little side quests during the game. And if you achieve the side quest and win the game you get a bit of a bonus.

These pieces don’t actually have any mechanics properties. It’s just normal chess and you still have to win. Given how important every move in chess is… this seems like a really stupid idea. I mean on top of being a pay to earn web3 game, this one is really stupid. Plying chess games where both parties are making these nonsense choices… I can’t imagine this working at all.

I think you can redeem your points for money. So I guess you need to find that weird equilibrium of winning while also doing your weird gimmicks each time.

    Ugh

Edit: to clarify, the gap between the best move you can identify and one that achieves your goals is likely going to be immense. And what’s weird about this thing is some goals will be easily achievable from a strong winning position while some will not. So the inevitable meta will almost certainly be getting a gimmick that benefits from winning, then trying to get into a winning position, then achieving your gimmick before your opponent resigns? If you have a gimmick that requires you to play poorly upfront… you’ll lose…

  • Whoever made the first animation on the webpage seems to have been a bit confused. Looks like they were trying to show the Ruy Lopez but the positions of the king and queen were switched.

  • I almost see the appeal. I mean, custom chess pieces for money is a pretty close analogy to the real world and chess game history could benefit by being on an immutable blockchain. But what's up with the metagame stuff?

I actually don't hate this idea.

Though I'm not sure why this idea needs a product team bigger than my last three startups which were all larger in scope. Not sure if that is a comment on how overstaffed they are or how under staffed I am, though.

  • > We're enhancing Chess

    No you're not

  • Pay to win chess?

Edit: Not so much pay-to-win-at-chess but pay-to-win-at-metagame which is possibly more stupid.

  • With so many free online chess options I struggle to believe this will catch on

  • Another pointless blockchain app that could just use a database?

  • Thanks, I hate it

  • Obviously satire.
