Ask HN: Purposely-inefficient daily tasks to keep in shape?
Wondering what others do in terms of daily tasks to help stay in shape.
It has to be something outside of a pure exercise activity, such as going for a walk or bike ride.
An example is to purposely park far away from a shop entrance so as to get a little extra walking in.
I'm particularly interested in strength-related ideas.
I started parking as far as I could from the building in college so I'd have to walk more. Park at the far end of a parking lot. Don't get deliveres, go to a store.
Take up woodworking with hand tools. Sawing your lumber, then planing it, should improve your upper body strength as well as your hand/eye coordination.
Strength-related... take 1 or 2 big cloth bags to the supermarket, fill them up with groceries, and carry them home on your hands instead of using a shopping cart and your car.
Wear a heavy backpack.
