How Often Should We Sharpen Our Tools?

  • Picked up (some) emacs in 1995, when I finally got a machine that could run a real version of it. That has served me well ever since. There's things like "org mode" that have happened in that time that I keep meaning to go have a look at, but never have enough need to go do it.

Not to rehash "Editor Wars"; whatever works for you is what you should use. It's good to try things that are hyped sometimes, and see why they're popular; but it's not always "rejecting advances" when those tools aren't as fitting to your use.

I had people talk up the "do what I mean" features of VScode, but i couldn't stand the actuality of it. Sometimes I don't know what I meant until I tried it 3 wrong ways first.
