ISP Suggests That Record Labels Can Sue Torrent Client Developers
The ISP isn’t taking the side of the record labels. They’re saying it shouldn’t be so easy to cut off service to accounts based on unverified third-party allegations of copyright infringement.
It’s easy to predict a subscriber gets their account axed because of DHCP lease-level details from a mistaken “third party” and the ISP wasn’t able or willing to explain DHCP in court. This case will decide how easy.
I suppose I’d argue that the ISP cannot determine from traffic patterns whether video streaming is being paid for with a stolen credit card.
