ISP Suggests That Record Labels Can Sue Torrent Client Developers

  • The ISP isn’t taking the side of the record labels. They’re saying it shouldn’t be so easy to cut off service to accounts based on unverified third-party allegations of copyright infringement.

It’s easy to predict a subscriber gets their account axed because of DHCP lease-level details from a mistaken “third party” and the ISP wasn’t able or willing to explain DHCP in court. This case will decide how easy.

I suppose I’d argue that the ISP cannot determine from traffic patterns whether video streaming is being paid for with a stolen credit card.
