Nintendo Hits 127 Switch Piracy Tutorial Repos After 'Cracking' URL Encryption

  • “The prod.keys allow users to bypass Nintendo’s Technological Measures for digital games; specifically, prod.keys allow users to decrypt and play Nintendo Switch games in unauthorized ways.”

We really can't be allowed to own the things we buy can we. I shouldn't need Nintendo's blessing to emulate their games if I rip them off a cartridge (or digital download) I purchased.

  • The "cracking" part was just using a base64 decoder. At first I thought they were talking about nin10news decoding, which I think would have been more useful to them, since people are using it to share complete ROM sets. IIRC those URLs are just AES encrypted with a single slash character as the key.
