Ask HN: Email services

What do you guys use to send and recieve emails from "@company.com"?

Also, is Google Apps a good choice for individuals rather than companies?

  • Rackspace Email. It's $2/mailbox/month, with a 100% uptime SLA, 24/7/365 phone/email/chat support, and automatic backups.

If you're not attached to the Gmail interface (I prefer desktop/mobile clients), Rackspace has the best e-mail hosting offering I know of. Google's customer support record doesn't even put them in the running if e-mail is important to your business.

  • I use FastMail for my personal mail and Google Apps for business -- but that's only because I stare at FastMail all day. I'd highly recommend a FastMail business account for anyone looking for an interface comparable to GMail.

  • Google Apps for Business is a good choice for individuals. I use it for several accounts and it works lovely.

However, they recently stopped accepting free sign-ups and is now a paid service. $5/user/month won't break the bank.

  • I used to use Google Apps standard edition (the free one). Still do because I'm 'grandfathered in'. If I had to pay, I'd probably goo with Office 365.

  • Mail read/write: Debian + Thunderbird

    Mail send/receive: Centos + Cyrus + Exim
